Education and Training

The Trust's educational objectives are:
General education
- Raise local and national awareness of the Suffolk Punch as a rare historic breed
- Encourage active support in maintaining and expanding the breed
- Encourage awareness and enjoyment of the special coastal landscape and its wildlife
- Facilitate research on a broad range of animal and social exclusion issues
- Increase public awareness and appreciation of the Centre’s habitat and uniqueness of the surrounding area
- Provide work skills and work training for prisoners across a wide spectrum of rural craft skills including animal management and the running and maintenance of a public visitor attraction
Environmental and Conservation Education
- Support and supplement organisations already providing environmental and conservation education where there are tangible resettlement benefits for prisoners
- Adopt a broader role bringing town versus country understanding and appreciation of the countryside, environment and conservation closer together
- Encourage schools from outside the catchment area and particularly inner city and poorer areas to experience the practical issues of managing conservation and the environment
Historical and Heritage Education
- Link the heritage and history of the area to school requirements
Heritage and historical education is a niche area for the Trust and education will be based on the development over time of this unique area in terms of farming and its wartime history
Education will be delivered through a broad range of programmes of activity including:
- Formal education – for schools and colleges visiting the Centre
- Taking education into schools with School talks
- Activity days for children during the holidays
- Talks to local clubs and itinerary tours for clubs and other special interest groups
- Events and open days on site
- Specialist courses for adults
- Prisoner courses which dovetail with resettlement education arranged by HM Prison Service
